Why is LIGNOFIBRE® wood fibre such an excellent raw material for substrates and soils?
When it comes to describing the ideal peat substitute for substrates and soils, our own wood fibre with the brand name LIGNOFIBRE® provides all the necessary properties for this. We have been producing this quality wood fibre since 2018 using the latest refining technology with our own wood fibre plant. In this way, we obtain a particularly high-quality substrate raw material with a good CO2 balance from the renewable and regional residual material wood chips (certified quality) by means of thermal-mechanical refining.(1) It ideally replaces peat in substrates and soils, and availability and quality are also assured due to our own production. The general advantages of the wood fibre LIGNOFIBRE® are in summary:
- the good drainage properties of the coarser variants
- the good water storage capacity of the finer variants
- the well-balanced air supply
- in the fast rewettability
- structural stability, i.e. low shrinkage
- rapid drying of the substrate surface
- in the low N-fixation (nitrogen stabilised)
After many years of research and development and establishment through ever-increasing proportions in our substrates, we now have five structural variants for our wood fibre LIGNOFIBRE®, ranging from extra-fine to coarse, mostly coloured or also available uncoloured.

LIGNOFIBRE®

LIGNOFIBRE®c

LIGNOFIBRE®c coarse

LIGNOFIBRE®c Xtrafine+

LIGNOFIBRE®c hydro
In this way, we cover the entire range from the press pot to the container and, in addition, the variants in combination also act as a so-called “peat replacement booster”, because well combined, the peat can be replaced in higher proportions and thus we significantly advance peat reduction while maintaining cultivation safety. This unique combinability of the wood fibre LIGNOFIBRE® is therefore the relevant point of leverage to continue to noticeably increase the peat replacement quota in the substrates with the raw materials currently available and thus to make them more climate-friendly.
All varieties are RAL quality assured and also FiBL listed for use in organic horticulture.
