Innovation meets family tradition

Since 1 July 2024, Stefan Kreft has been Managing Director of Sales and Marketing, Quality Assurance, Research & Development and IT. He thus supports the Managing Partner Josef Gramann. He continues to be responsible for production and peat extraction, sustainable product development, technical project management as well as renaturalisation and raised bog development.

In line with the self-sufficiency trend, the new Gramoflor tomato & vegetable soil is presented, completely peat-free! Supported by mineral fertilisation, it provides the best possible care for tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, aubergines, courgettes, pumpkins & co.

In spring we launch the new LIGNOFIBRE® coarse as a true peat replacement booster. It offers even more possibilities for increasing the proportions of alternative, renewable raw materials in Gramoflor substrates and soils.

As of 01.01.2020, Gramoflor no longer produces any substrate or soil without peat substitutes.
In March 2021, Gramoflor Ibérica SLU will start operating the new, first Spanish plant on the Iberian Peninsula.
At the end of 2021, the extremely fine-textured LIGNOFIBRE®c Xtrafine+ is introduced. It is perfect for growing and propagation substrates as well as for press pots and trays.

In 2019, the company will invest in its own coco processing plant at the Vechta site. This will enable the production of the three Cocopeat quality grades, type 30, 60 and 100, from the residual coconut fibre.

The first own plant equipped with state-of-the-art refiner technology for the production of the quality wood fibre LIGNOFIBRE® is put into operation.

The CO2 calculator developed in 2017 enables an environmentally conscious optimisation of Gramoflor substrates and soils.

Gramoflor develops 100% natural and peat-free organic soils for the specialised trade: organic potting & plant soil and organic herb & vegetable soil.
In 2015, the entire – now peat-reduced – range of Gramoflor hobby soils is presented in a new, contemporary design.

The non-profit foundation “Lebensraum Moor” is established. Its purpose is to promote peatland and nature conservation, ecological education and research and development.

The new administration building is built in 2010, taking into account ecological, health and social criteria.
In 2011, Gramoflor launches the Research & Development department with its own experimental greenhouse. The focus is on alternative substrate raw materials based on renewable raw and residual materials.

Merger of the previously independent production sites in Vechta and Vörden to form “Gramoflor GmbH und Co. KG”.

Independent marketing under the brand name “Gramoflor” is initiated step by step. Josef Hermann Gramann initiates the expansion of the two modern production sites in Vechta and Vörden, as well as the future-oriented securing of further own peat extraction areas in northern Germany.

Today’s managing partner Josef Hermann Gramann actively joins the company during his father’s lifetime. Under his leadership, the company merged with the internationally active Ostendorf Group in 1991. The peat factory is expanded into one of the most modern substrate and potting soil factories in Europe – under the name “Gramoflor Gärtnererden”.

In the middle of the 20th century, peat was discovered as an ideal raw material for the production of potting soils and growing media in horticulture. A new, promising business field emerges. Gramann’s first peat products are also sold abroad in Europe, America and Canada.

In 1920/21, Hermann Josef Gramann expands the production of fuel peat to include the manufacture of pressed peat. This is increasingly in demand as fertiliser peat and peat litter for livestock stables.
In 1926, Josef Gramann builds the first peat litter factory, thus establishing the oldest white peat processing plant in the Vechta Moor.

With the official registration, Anton Gramann officially founds the first commercial peat trading company in the district of Vechta.
The focus of the family agricultural business is initially on trading peat as fuel and bedding for livestock stables.
